Pangu PWD Sweeper Colony, Agargoan, Dhaka, Bangladesh, September 2007.

Sweeping the streets is a dirty job and Dhaka’s sweepers are mainly Dalits. They are discriminated against and confined to live in slums. 500 people live in 98 shacks under unsanitary conditions. Each shack is extremely small, only a few square metres. The authorities provide no safe drinking water, no electricity and no special health facilities. There are no schools in the vicinity.
