A report ‘Justice Denied: Sexual Violence and Intersectional Discrimination - Barriers to Accessing Justice for Dalit Women and Girls in Haryana’ by Swabhiman Society, a grassroots organisation led by Dalit women, and international women's rights organisation Equality Now. The report examined 40 rape cases involving Dalit women and girls, which occurred over a span of 12 years, from 2009 - 2020.
In India, women and girls from the Dalit community experience incredibly high rates of sexual violence. Nodeep has been denied bail twice because of a range of charges slapped against her, including Section 307 – attempt to murder.
On 1 January, Jeyasri Kathirvel, a 21-year-old garment-factory worker from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district, was murdered.
