Floods in Sindh-the 'untouchables' waiting to get a touch of relief effort (Ahmadiyya Times): After weeks of monsoon rains, which caused the recent history’s worst ever catastrophic disaster, Dalit communities are denied to get in to relief camps because of their caste. Dalits are forced to live in open sky and what is worse, NGOs and international donors are for security reasons forbidden to work in these areas. Fizza Hassan collects victims’ testimonies.
Flood-hit Dalits facing hunger and prejudice (International – The News): 3.8 million peasants affected by rains and flood belong to low-caste Hindu families. They are not being treated equally, they maintain. “While traveling from Hyderabad to Badin”, the author notes, “there were tents, makeshift shelters and water everywhere.”
Flood relief for minorities: Zardari seeks report from Sindh over discrimination (The Express Tribune): President Asif Ali Zardari has demanded a report from the Sindh government into news reports that scheduled caste Hindus (Dalits) affected by floods were being denied humanitarian assistance. The article reports how Dalits have not only been denied help but have also not been allowed to enter relief camps for being ‘untouchables’.
