Upcoming Event: The experience of the Indian Election ´09 – National Consultation on the Right of Franchise of Dalits to be held on June 25-26th
23/06/09

The Indian Elections, which ended in May, were conducted amidst reports of discrimination against Dalits trying to vote. The National Dalit Election Watch (NDEW), an initiative launched by the National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR), has monitored selected polling stations nationwide and has registered complaints associated with discrimination against Dalits. Read more about the election outcome and the work of NDEW during the elections in the IDSN news piece “Indian elections: More of the same – or is India ready to change?”

To reflect on this process, a National Consultation on the Right of Franchise of Dalits will be held on June 25-26 in New Delhi. The National Consultation has been planned to share experiences and the lessons learned from the NDEW monitoring of the 2009 general elections, and to develop a strategic plan for the future.

The consultation will be held at the Indian Social Institute (ISI), 10, Institutional Area, Lodi Road, New Delhi, from the 25-26th June at 10:30 am.
